Tips for Virtual Networking

  • Make sure your Handshake and LinkedIn profiles are up-to-date so recruiters can see if their company has a potential job fit for you
  • Connect with new employers on LinkedIn to increase your amount of connections and follow employers on Handshake
    • You never know when someone may post a job opening that interests you
  • Increase your social media presence
    • Consider posting more on LinkedIn to help stay connected in this time of working remote
    • Make sure your profile pictures on all social media platforms are professional and appropriate
  • Consider inviting an employer for a virtual coffee chat
    • This is a great and casual way to make a new connection or maintain a relationship with a recruiter
    • Dress business casual at the minimum
    • Schedule the meeting for around 20 minutes and follow up afterwards thanking them for their time
  • Be mindful of the time zones
  • Use a professional email address
  • Make sure your name on Zoom, etc. is your actual name and not something unprofessional
